Teams Rally for Frisbee

Richmond, VA — March 18, 2008 — Union-PSCE will be the site for the Fourth Annual Ultimate Frisbee Tournament on April 18-20. Seminary students from several other theological schools will meet in Richmond for friendly Frisbee competition and opportunities to build new friendships with future colleagues in ministry.

The student-organized tournament is played in 7-person teams of men and women. Teams score “goals” in the fast-paced game of advancing Frisbees down the field. The Westwood Tract and the seminary quadrangle are used as venues where students cheer on their teams. During the weekend, there are shared meals and a worship service.

“The greatest value of the Ultimate Frisbee Tournament is in the practice of community. Whether on the field, listening to music, sharing in worship, meeting new people, or eating as Presbyterians love to do, the community is involved,” said Peter Thompson, second year M.Div. student and one of the organizers of the event.

This year for the first time the students have invited faculty and staff to play with the team. They are also inviting surrounding businesses to make donations and extend the involvement of the community.

“We are expecting around 140 to 150 participants including volunteers this year,” said Peter. Ultimate Frisbee is a popular pastime at Union-PSCE, and the tournament is the culmination of hours of practice. Go Teams!
