Scholar of Indian Religions to Present Lecture


Richmond, VA— February 12, 2008— Dr. Nikky-Guninder Kaur Singh, professor of religious studies at Colby College in Maine, will deliver a free public lecture on Thursday, March 27, at 7 p.m. in Watts Chapel at Union-PSCE. Her topic is "The Role of Aesthetics in Inter-Religious Understanding."

Born in India, Singh holds degrees from Wellesley College, the University of Pennsylvania, and Temple University.  Her research interests focus on poetics, feminist issues, and Sikhism. Singh's books include The Feminine Principle in the Sikh Vision of the Transcendent and The Name of My Beloved: Verses of the Sikh Gurus.

This is the second in a series of annual lectures honoring professor emeritus Donald Dawe and his wife Nancy to promote emotional and ethical growth, especially in relation to interfaith dialogue and understanding.
