“I have had the opportunity to preach on a regular basis, work part time as a youth minister, and travel to some of the poorest parts of our world. My sense of the need for action in the world has only increased since I have come to Union-PSCE. I suspect whatever opportunities open themselves up to me, it won’t be coincidental.”

Peter Bynum,
M.Div. Student
As a Master of Divinity student, I have been both humbled and encouraged by the academic, theological, and pastoral abilities of the students at Union-PSCE, and I feel fortunate to be preparing for ministry with such a committed and compassionate community of faith.
This gratitude is magnified by the fact that, as recently as two years ago, I was still not sure if it would be possible for me to be here. In my work as a real estate attorney in North Carolina, I had sensed God’s call to do something different with my life. But as a husband and father of two young girls, the financial implication of losing my income as a frightening prospect. After much prayer and soul searching, I realized that the only reason I could think of not to pursue the call to ministry was the financial one. In other words, I was standing squarely in the shoes of the “rich young man” of Matthew 19: to follow God would require me to turn my back on the treasures of this world. The disciple in me longed to say yes, but the father in me remained anxious.
We made the decision to follow. But a critical aspect of that decision was the financial support my family has received from Union-PSCE and donors like you. Without that aid, it would have been very difficult for us to follow the call.
Even now, God is stirring the hearts of men and women to serve the church. Many of these potential pastors and educators will be passing up more lucrative paths in order to follow God’s call on their lives. It is therefore incumbent on every Christian, especially those who live in the most prosperous and blessed nation in history, to do his or her part to support those who desire to serve God in full-time, professional ministry. It is not an exaggeration to say this just may be one of the most important missions you and your church can pursue.
Wonderful things are happening at Union-PSCE, and the world will be a better place because of the contributions my fellow students will make both inside and outside of the church. The still, small voice of God continues to call potential students to ministry, and your assistance can make all the difference!
Thank you and God Bless!
